Dear Supporter,

What an exciting time to be Green in Saskatchewan!  It has been a busy time, to say the least!  I am happy to report that thanks to the work of a dedicated volunteer, the GPS website will be re-launched, new and improved, by mid September.  In the meantime, you can keep up with me by visiting my blog at http://revolution-solution.blogspot.com .

As the only political party in Saskatchewan stands united in opposition to nuclear power, the current nuclear debate has elevated the importance of the Green Party of Saskatchewan to the people of this province.

It's obvious the Government of Saskatchewan needs new management. The numbers of the First Quarter Report of the provincial budget aren't even close to what the government said they would be when the budget was released in the spring.  A major factor was a loss of $1.3 billion in projected potash revenues that the government had banked on.  We are already headed into a deficit, and the worldwide recession is just starting to hit Saskatchewan.  It's time to do things differently, or it could get worse.  Instead of using last year's surplus to come up with a plan for economic stability, the Wall Government did nothing.  Instead, they've conducted back room deals for costly nuclear power, which has put places such as Ontario billions of dollars into debt.

A Green Party of Saskatchewan Government would have used last year's surplus to plan for the economic instability that lies ahead by implementing measures such as the Guaranteed Liveable Income and free post secondary education for Saskatchewan residents.  Instead of wasting $3 million was on a feasibility study to expand the uranium industry without even considering the alternatives, we would have prepared for the future by investing in energy conservation and renewable energy.  Billions more will be wasted on nuclear by this government unless we make our voices known and elect a Green Government in 2011.  Let's win this nuclear fight once and for all.  We need to phase out uranium mining in Saskatchewan and phase in green energy jobs.

The Green Party of Saskatchewan is calling upon the Government of Saskatchewan to immediately fund and make public independent studies into the health and public safety risks and the environmental impact of nuclear power and uranium mining, and we join the people of Saskatchewan in calling for full feasibility studies into energy conservation and renewable energy technologies before any decision on the energy future of Saskatchewan is made.

At the Government of Saskatchewan's public consultations held throughout the month of June on the Uranium Development Partnership Report, the people of Saskatchewan overwhelmingly rejected the idea of nuclear power and a nuclear waste depository in our province.  The full written report of the Green Party of Saskatchewan's UDP Stakeholder presentation that I presented at the Regina UDP Stakeholder meeting on June 23rd can be viewed on my blog at this link:
http://revolution-solution.blogspot.com/2009/08/green-party-of-saskatchewan-udp.html .

So, where do we go from here?  Simply put, we keep going.  The nuclear debate is far from over.  The release of Dan Perrin's report on the UDP public consultations has been delayed by two weeks and will now be released September 14th instead of August 31st.  This gives us extra time to write letters-to-the-editor, letters to our MLAs, and letters to the Premier.

Mark your calendars!  The province-wide Clean Green Coalition is currently organizing a massive NO NUKES - GO RENEWABLES RALLY & PARADE, in Saskatoon on the first Sunday in October.  Stay tuned to www.cleangreensask.ca  for more info.

For those living in the ridings of Regina Douglas Park and Saskatoon Riversdale, September 21st is your chance to say "I vote no to nuclear, I vote Green."  Please consider making a donation to the by-election campaigns or volunteering.  Think of the message we would send to the people of this province if we were to win over pro-nuke Dwain Lingenfelter in the Regina Douglas Park by-election!

A better future is within our reach.  Now is the time for us to reach out and take it.

Donate, Volunteer, Join.

Peace and Solidarity,
Larissa Shasko.
