Letter from the President (and EIC)
Pure Greenius, Winter Edition 2009
Dear Members and Readers:
Wow! It’s been a long and productive few months.
Most recently I’ve been putting in overtime hours designing, writing, and
editing our current edition of Pure Greenius. This, our second edition, took
far more work than the first. We launched using a web ready “plug and play”
layout provided by our domain host. Now we’ve moved into our more
permanent abode. And I must say, all the work was worth it. I’m so pleased
how the look of the site has pulled together. Fun, fresh, easy to read, and
simple to navigate... and with a clear green focus. Thanks for bearing with
us during the shift from our former incarnation, in print as the Weaver, to
this our bright new forward-facing ezine.
In my role as the President of the Green Party of Saskatchewan, I’ve been
busy making public appearances, and continuing to fight the good fight (as
it were). The month of November saw many events in Saskatoon, and
around the province, as people united for a number of reasons.
One particular event I was happy to see grow is Hands Across the Water. An anti-poverty, poverty-awareness, event. Folk from many walks of life gathered at the downtown end of the Broadway Bridge, and silently, holding hands forming a line in solidarity, united to fight poverty in our community, we walked across the bridge. Were we enough strong to make it all the way across? Sadly, no. But we’ll get there. With each year the chain of people will grow... and soon we’ll have enough support to have people holding hands all the way across the bridge.
Along with triumphs this fall, came disappointments as well. Amber Jones, my friend and campaign manager, and I worked long and hard during the provincial by-election in Saskatoon Riversdale. And while our numbers were disappointing in the end, it was still a wonderful opportunity to share our vision for our province with many great people. The news wasn’t all bad though. While our numbers, over all, were small we did win one of the polls... which is proof that people are listening, that people are looking towards a future that embraces the principles of the Green Party. It’s something to take hope in.
Anyway... I’ve taken your attention for long enough. There are many great articles to read and things to learn. Take care everyone.
Wishing you a bright and full holiday season,
Tobi-Dawne Smith.
